A short history
Wikipedia's Camberley article gives this undisputed background. The area was sparse heathland until the Royal Military College was built at Sandhurst in 1812, and a settlement grew nearby. The Staff College opened to the east in 1862, and the nucleus of Cambridge Town was laid out around the same time. The Basingstoke Canal was completed in 1794, and the Ascot to Aldershot line brought Camberley station in 1878. The Post Office assigned the name Camberley on 15 January 1877, to avoid post going to Cambridge.
St Michael's Church, Yorktown
Historic England's list entry lists the Church of St Michael York Town, London Road, at Grade II, first listed on 19 July 1984. The entry says it was built 1849 to 1851 by H. Woodyer, with arcades and aisles in 1858 to 1859 and a tower added in 1891.
