Who collects the bins in Camberley?

Bin collections across Surrey Heath, which covers Camberley, Frimley, Frimley Green, Bagshot, Lightwater and Mytchett, are run by Joint Waste Solutions on behalf of Surrey Heath Borough Council. The council's own page is mostly a signpost: it points you to Joint Waste Solutions to check your collection day, report a missed collection and download the 2026 bin calendar. Joint Waste Solutions can be phoned on 0333 234 0978, as listed by the council.

How do I find my collection day?

Joint Waste Solutions says that Surrey Heath residents can enter their postcode in the Surrey Heath bin hub, or download the 2026 service guide, from its check my collection day page. Your day can differ from your neighbour's street, so look it up by your own postcode rather than assuming. The 2026 service guide also says that bins should be left on your property boundary by 6am on your collection day.

Which bins do I have and how often are they emptied?

The 2026 Surrey Heath bin collections and recycling guide sets out the frequencies:

  • Rubbish bin (black): collected fortnightly.
  • Recycling bin: collected fortnightly.
  • Food waste: collected weekly from your separate food waste bin.
  • Garden waste: collected fortnightly from your separate garden waste bin, for subscribers.
  • Textiles and small electricals: collected weekly, in a small tied carrier bag placed next to your bin.

On colours, Joint Waste Solutions' which bin is which page says recycling bins are either the older green lid and body or the newer blue lid on a black body, and that colours are being phased in. Garden waste bins are brown, or brown-lidded on a black body. Rubbish bins are black, and food waste goes in a green outdoor caddy, with a silver indoor kitchen caddy. The existing and new black rubbish bins and food caddies are the same colour.

What goes in the recycling and rubbish bins?

The 2026 guide lists dry paper, dry cardboard, metal tins and cans, foil, plastic bottles, pots, trays and tubs, and glass bottles and jars for the recycling bin. For the rubbish bin it lists items such as black bin bags, anything with food on it, tissues and wipes, crisp packets and wrappers, greasy pizza boxes, polystyrene, coffee cups, nappies and cling film. Items like plastic bags, crisp packets and Tetra Paks can be recycled elsewhere using the Surrey Recycles search tool, according to the same guide.

Joint Waste Solutions also has an item search tool for anything not covered, linked from the council's page. If an item is not listed, use that tool rather than guessing, because putting the wrong thing in the recycling bin can cause problems.

What can go in the food and garden waste bins?

The guide shows that all food, meat, eggshells and tea bags go in the food waste bin. For garden waste it lists grass cuttings, prunings, fallen leaves and cut flowers, and it says that soil and stones are not accepted.

Garden waste is an annual subscription service. Joint Waste Solutions says you can subscribe or renew online, and that the price is shown in the form after you choose your options. The subscription starts once your bin arrives. Existing customers can also phone 03332 340978. The council's garden waste page also suggests home composting or the community recycling centres if you would rather not subscribe.

What if my bin is missed?

The council's make a request or report a problem page says you can report a missed bin up to two working days after your collection day, through Joint Waste Solutions. The same page lets you:

  • order a new or replacement recycling, rubbish or food waste bin or an indoor caddy (a charge may apply);
  • request a one-off bulky waste collection for large items such as washing machines or furniture (a fee applies);
  • arrange a sharps collection or a clinical waste collection;
  • report street cleaning problems such as fly tipping, dead animals, dog fouling, graffiti or overflowing bins.

Check the bulky waste fee on the Joint Waste Solutions site before booking, as the council page says only that one applies.

Flats, assisted collections and other help

The council page lists flat collections and assisted-type arrangements only as links to Joint Waste Solutions, so check Joint Waste Solutions for their rules. If you live in a flat, use the collections from flats page as linked by the council. For anything else, call 0333 234 0978 or use the other enquiries form the council links to.

A note on future changes

Surrey Heath's own website states that from April 2027 the county council and the 11 district and borough councils in Surrey will be replaced by two new unitary councils, under a programme it calls Future Surrey. The council's pages do not say how bin collections will change, so keep using Joint Waste Solutions and the council's page for the current service.
