Two councils, two jobs

In Camberley the work is split. Surrey County Council looks after roads, pavements and street lights. Surrey Heath Borough Council handles fly-tipping, graffiti, dog fouling, abandoned vehicles and, through Joint Waste Solutions, street cleaning. Knowing which is which gets your report to the right place quickly.

Potholes, pavements and trees by the road

Surrey County Council's report it online page says road and street issues are reported through its online system at tellus.surreycc.gov.uk. It lists potholes, trees, hedges, grass or weeds, street lighting and sign failures, and worn or cracked road surfaces. For an immediate threat to safety, it says to call the highways line rather than use the form.

The county's roads maintenance page says it repairs potholes and other minor defects when they come to its attention and meet its highway safety standards. Not every defect will qualify for repair.

Street light faults

The county's street lights faults page says you should report online, and it asks for:

  • the road name (needed to search on the map);
  • the street light column number if you can see one;
  • a description of the fault, such as the light being out;
  • nearby landmarks or building names, and your contact details.

The timescales it publishes: on roads under 50mph, standard lighting repairs are 6 working days and column replacement is 10 working days; on roads of 50mph or more, most repairs are 15 working days. It adds that a light may be inspected first and a further job raised if more work is needed.

Fly-tipping

According to the borough council's environmental offences page, fly-tipping is a Surrey Heath Borough Council matter. If you witnessed it, there is a fly-tip witness report form linked from that page. If you did not witness it, report it through the make a request or report a problem page, under street cleaning. That page, run with Joint Waste Solutions, also covers fly-posting, dead animals, dog fouling, graffiti, overflowing bins and dirty streets.

Graffiti, dog fouling and abandoned vehicles

The same page lists a form for witnessing graffiti or vandalism and a dedicated dog fouling page. For abandoned vehicles, the council says it deals with vehicles that have been vandalised, burned out, are in a dangerous condition or pose an environmental hazard. It says illegally parked cars that are not in an unsafe condition are a police matter.

Parks and play areas

Overflowing bins and maintenance problems in parks are reported through the council's parks problem page, which says parks are maintained by an external company, Glendale.

Noise, pests and other issues

Noise, nuisance, light and bonfire complaints, and pest control information, have their own pages under the council's environment section. Missed bins are covered in our bin collection guide.

Contacting the council directly

Surrey Heath House is on Knoll Road, Camberley GU15 3HD, with face-to-face visits 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday, which the council says can be pre-booked by phone, as per its contact page.

A note on reorganisation
