How do I register with a GP?

The NHS's guide to registering with a GP surgery says:

  • Search by postcode, choose a surgery that offers online registration, and fill in a registration form. It says this takes about 15 minutes per person, and registration typically completes within 5 days of the surgery getting your details.
  • You do not need ID, proof of address or proof of immigration status. Name, date of birth and address are the essential details.
  • If you prefer, you can register by visiting the surgery with a paper form, downloading a form, or using the surgery's own website where available.
  • Existing patients can use the NHS App to change surgery.

Can I register with a surgery outside my area?

The NHS says some surgeries accept patients from further away, which you can check through the NHS finder or by asking the surgery. It warns that registering outside your local area may limit access to home visits, urgent care and community services such as physiotherapy.

When your surgery is closed

For urgent problems when your surgery is closed, see our guide to urgent care near Camberley. NHS 111 can direct you to the right service, including an out-of-hours GP where appropriate, according to the NHS page on 111.
