Where council car parks in Camberley offer electric vehicle charging, how the county's on-street chargepoints are priced, and how to ask for one near your home.
In Camberley town centre, Main Square car park has two Pod Point charge points and Knoll Road car park has four Connected Kerb charge points, all seven kilowatt with type two connectors. Parking charges continue while you charge. Surrey County Council also has on-street chargepoints.
Where can I charge in Camberley town centre?
Two of Surrey Heath Borough Council's multi-storey car parks in the town centre list charge points on their council pages.
- Main Square car park, 1 Albert Road, Camberley GU15 3RP: the council page lists two Pod Point charge points on Level 1, seven kilowatt, mode three with type two connectors, which it says can charge most electric vehicles in three to five hours. Separate Pod Point fees apply, and parking charges continue while you charge.
- Knoll Road car park, Knoll Road, Camberley GU15 3SY: the council page lists four charge points operated by Connected Kerb, also seven kilowatt, mode three with type two connectors, with a three to five hour charge time for most EVs. Standard parking charges apply during charging.
For parking tariffs at both, see our parking guide. Both are ticketless car parks. There may be more charge points in other council car parks than are listed here, so check Surrey Heath's EV charging points page.
What about on-street charging?
Surrey County Council has a contract with Connected Kerb to install chargepoints across the county. Its electric vehicles page says there were over 200 on-street chargepoint sockets installed on its behalf as of October 2024, up from 6 in 2020. It does not list individual locations on that page and recommends the Zap Map website to find public chargepoints, which it says is regularly updated.
What does on-street charging cost?
The county's page lists these tariffs as of 22 April 2025:
- Mer chargepoints: 50p per kilowatt hour
- Connected Kerb: 53p per kWh from 7am to midnight and 43p per kWh from midnight to 7am
- Lamp column chargepoints: 50p per kWh
Those figures are over a year old at the time of writing, so check the operator's app or the council page for the current price before assuming they still apply.
Can I ask for a chargepoint near my home?
Surrey County Council says residents can suggest locations using an interactive map on Commonplace, headed "Have your say today about Surrey EVs". It says it considers factors including parking availability, traffic patterns, power infrastructure and community feedback when choosing sites. For homes without off-street parking, the council also describes cable gully installations, with costs starting at £499 at a subsidised rate.
